Pirates Of The Caribbe On Stranger Tides - 1246 Words

Hollywood today spends more money on movies than ever before, with an average budget of $140 million per movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides; the most expensive movie ever made; cost approximately $378.5 million and that was five years ago. This isn’t surprising since history is witness to a rising trend in money spent on movies, even after adjusting for inflation, however, their impact on the industry isn’t as large as their budgets. Over the years, lower cost productions like B-Movies have played a major role in carrying the industry forward by keeping it stable, moving and profitable in times of trouble. B-Movies came to be the need of the hour after The Great Depression and World War II. Money was tight everywhere and Hollywood could not continue making extravagant movies therefore they turned to low budget commercial films. These movies not only have an economical significance in Hollywood, they have made more than one contribution to the industry. T hese low risk movies provided directors, writers and producers with a wide scope for experimentation and led to the creation of many a genres and sub-genres. The origins of B-Movies are humble but over the years that they grew in Hollywood, they became more significant and successful, yet their progress from â€Å"Rags to Riches† remains more a behind-the-scenes heroic act than a superhero effort. B-Movies originally came into being to serve the purpose of being the second class feature in the double-feature

Construction Planning and Scheduling - 1974 Words

Introduction Construction activities are often exposed to various weather conditions, and often construction productivity is dependent on these weather conditions. Weather conditions are local, seasonal, and sometimes unusual. Inclement weather conditions often result in project disruptions, delays, and disputes between the project parties. Many trades such as earthwork, concrete, roofing, and landscaping are often affected by severe weather, meanwhile other trades such as carpet installers or sheetrock installers may not be directly affected by the weather. Owners, general contractors, and subcontractors all face many risks associated with weather conditions. In order to mediate weather risks, all of the involved construction†¦show more content†¦Frozen ground magnifies the difficulty of movement and compaction of soils. Frozen soil conditions greatly reduce the equipment productivity. As cold weather affects the operator of the equipment, the soil conditions affect the effectiveness of the equipment. Weather Delay Day What type of weather qualifies as a weather delay day? A weather delay day is a day in which work must be completely stopped because efficient construction operations will be difficult to achieve with the weather conditions. Three key factors affecting weather delays and disruptions are; type of construction, on-site drying conditions, and the intensity of rainfall. The threshold values for adverse weather vary from location to location. The threshold values also depend on the trades working and various other social and natural factors. However, a weather day should be decided based on the combination of the threshold values, type of work affected, and common sense. Table 1 below shows a sample adverse weather day calendar. Someone Who Has Inspired Me free essay sample

My family is very important to me; they have encouraged me through good times and supported me through bad. My family has shaped who I am today and has always been there for me. I have seven aunts, nine uncles, thirteen cousins and a brother named William and a sister named Shauney. Out of my thirty one family members there is one I particularly look up to beyond all the rest, my Aunt Erin. My Aunt Erin has been by my side since the day I was born, she has supported me through numerous school activities such as cross country running races and outdoor track meets, but has also been by my side through many road races, and included me in marathons she has done as well. She is not only my aunt, god mother, running buddy and friend, but a role model to me as well and I look up to her eminently. She graduated CVU High School; College bound and attended Johnson state college with an aspiration to become a special educator. There at Johnson she attended school for four years, worked exceedingly hard, was placed in the hall of fame with a soccer award, and graduated. She now works at Hinesburg community school as a special educator for k-2nd graders, and achieved her goal. When you’re young you are told that anything is possible if you set your mind to it, or at least that’s what my mom would always tell me. But as you mature and become more sophisticated, you realize that you are in fact limited to specific opportunities based on the direction you chose to take, and the decisions you make. I personally believe that not everyone can be successful in achieving their goals, but that everyone is given the opportunity and for me it’s how hard I chose to work on achieving my goals, and how important it is to me to succeed. My aunt encourages me, and I will strive to be like her. My goal is to become a dental assistant, it has been a passion of mine for quite a while and although my interests in careers has switched around a lot over the years, I have finally found the career path I choose to take. My goal has also always been to find a career in which I can help people no matter where I end up in the work force and I find dental assisting to be rather fitting. I admire the people who partake in this career, and I look forward to foreshadowing one of the dental assistants in my office within the next month or so, to get a greater idea as to what they do. When given the opportunity I have no doubt that I can achieve my goal, because I am ambitious, determined, dedicated, distinguished and when I set a goal for myself, I work hard to achieve it.

Live and Learn free essay sample

â€Å"Wake up! Its 5:00am, time to hit the road!† As I leap out of my bed, I remember that it is the beginning of my favorite week of the summer! Even though it is early, I grab my pillow and blanket and run in excitement to the car. Despite the fact that I am tried and awake hours before I usually am, this does not bother me in the slightest. For seventeen years I have enjoyed waking up early and rushing to the car to start my week long family vacation where I get to spend time with the people I care most about. I spent my first twelve summer vacations in Dennisport, Cape Cod with my mom, dad, sister, aunt and uncle. One special tradition my sister Melanie and I had every year was to go down to the beach right before sunset and make a big, beautiful sand creation. We will write a custom essay sample on Live and Learn or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Some years we would make a huge sand castle decorated with sea shells and seaweed, while other years we would make a giant mermaid or turtle. Our family would sit above us on the deck, eating their steamed clams and shrimp cocktail and watch us build our creation while occasionally commenting down on our progress. Their continual laughter would make me smile with the warm feeling that quality family time brings. I will always cherish these childhood memories of times on the beach with my sister. While I wished I would be able to stay a child on this vacation forever, I soon had to face the fact that I was growing and maturing and along with that, my vacation to Cape Cod would not remain the same. After twelve amazing years spent at Dennisport, my mother’s death from cancer changed my life and our Cape Cod vacation forever. At first, I did not let myself accept this. I could not acknowledge the fact that we would no longer create family memories at Cape Cod. The first summer after my mom passed away my dad, my grandmother, Melanie and I spent a quiet week in Cape Cod. Instead of my sister and me going off and making a sand castle, we now spent time having appetizers with my dad and grandma instead. We would sit around the counter talking and laughing while my dad prepared 4lbs lobsters for each of us to enjoy. This was the first of what would become many vacations spent in Harwichport. In the years that followed, my new step mom, Kristin and step sister, Tasha joined my dad, Melanie and me in Harwichport. Now, rather than building sand castles, I run with my family into the 58 degree water at Marconi Beach searching for the perfect waves to ride in. The moment that I get right on top of the wave and come flying onto the shore, a smile crosses my face and I am filled with the exhilaration of the ride and the excitement of these new memories. In these instances, I am once again filled with the warm sensation that comes with family time and knowing everyth ing is okay. Through the changes in the family and location of my trip to Cape Cod one thing has remained the same; my vacation to Cape Cod allows me to create memorable experiences that I will always cherish. My recollections of Cape Cod when I was younger have created lasting bonds between myself and my mom that will remain with me always. My vacations with my dad, new mom and sisters bring the opportunity for new experiences and memories now and in the years to come. Although change can be scary and difficult, when I reflect back on my Cape Cod vacations I can appreciate the new adventures that have come with these changes.
